New Pastor at Corner Gospel

The pastoral search is over. On July 27 the congregation voted to have Pastor Sterling Quinn and his family come to be the new addition of the Corner Gospel Church.

Pastor Sterling and his wife recently moved from Terrace Bay where they Pastored the Pentecostal church for five years. They are looking forward to getting to know the church congregation and surrounding communities. Please feel free to call them or come to one of the weekly services to meet them

Pastor Quinn's Thought for the Week

The Unchanging Gospel

Sometime ago I had the privilege to visit Fort Severn, a Native reserve up on Hudson’s Bay that I’ve had a history with years ago.  At the age of 21 and a recent graduate from Bible College I was asked to be the minister in Fort Severn for three months.  I remember the fear in my heart at taking on the responsibility of leading a congregation so far removed from what was familiar to me and being so young.  So the time came and this scared white kid went to the north with not much other than the faith that Gospel message, of reconciliation with God through the person and work of Jesus, had power to transform lives.  In those days I got to see some really neat transformation: like one young man in a coma, induced from drinking too much hair spray, become one of the faithful members of the church and hardest workers in the community.

As I returned to the small community it was refreshing to see the faithful elders who had provided me with the fish, caribou and prayers so many years ago and some of the young people whose wedding I had preformed still living out their faith.  When I got up to give my sermon I preached almost the same message I did 14 years previous and encouraged the people that it is still the message of the Gospel delivered by the apostles that is the power of God.

On the Plane ride home over the vast north I had time to ponder my life and the beginnings of my work as a minister.  I had a great gratitude in my heart that it wasn’t me that was the substance of life and hope to many broken lives, but the Gospel of Jesus and his grace and spirit at work.  I was humbled and reminded of what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1:23 “…but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”  How refreshing to rest on truth, wisdom and power that doesn’t change.
